With a peanut allergy in the family, and backyard birds we wanted to feed, we went looking for bird seed that was safe, this meant that it didn’t contain peanuts, or may contain peanuts or was processed in a facility that also processes peanuts.

We looked, and looked and looked. Nothing was safe.

Did you know that bird seed (except for ours!) is pretty much guaranteed to either contain peanuts, or may contain peanuts or be processed in a facility that also processes peanuts (or all three!). It is.

And, as anyone who has a peanut (or any) allergy in the family knows, you read labels and you read them well. Did you know that pet food (bird seed) isn’t regulated the same as human food when it comes to labelling for allergens, and that any sort of allergen labelling on bird seed is voluntary? (sincere thanks to the companies out there who do include a voluntary allergen label). We, rightfully, didn’t trust anything we found.

None of this sat right with us - life is complicated enough, especially when you're navigating it with a peanut (or any) allergy, and everyone should be able to feed the birds worry and peanut free.

So, we got to work to change this, for our family and for all of the other families - and individuals and schools and parks, everyone everywhere who wanted to safely feed the birds. And, now you can.

We start with premium, non-GMO seeds that backyard birds truly love (no fillers!) and that are certified peanut free by a third party accredited lab. Then, we blend, store and package them in our purpose-built peanut free (and tree nut free.. please see our FAQ page) facility.
