Certified Peanut Free Birdseed

Because everyone should be able to feed the birds worry & peanut free. Now you can.

About us

Why peanut free?

Bird seed (except for ours!) is pretty much guaranteed to contain peanuts or traces of peanuts or be processed in a facility that uses peanuts (most likely all three). This makes it unsafe for people with peanut allergies or peanut free environments like schools to feed the birds. We wanted to change that.

  • Bird seed is pretty much guaranteed to contain or may contain peanuts. Not ours! Our seeds are certified peanut free.

  • Most bird seed contains tree nuts or traces of tree nuts. Our blends don't contain any of the tree nuts.

(please see our allergen statement in our FAQ below)

  • We only use premium, naturally non-GMO seeds that backyard birds truly love. We never use fillers (which are often GMO).

"Birds are a miracle because they prove to us there is a finer, simpler state of being which we may strive to attain.”

- Douglas Coupland

No fillers!

Did you know that many blends of wild birdseed contain up to 70% (or more!) of (cheap) fillers? Birds aren't fond of these, and neither are we. This is why our blends cost a bit more, we think it's worth it (so do the birds).

Backyard safe

If your backyard is enjoyed by someone with a peanut allergy, using birdseed that contains peanuts or traces of peanuts (which it all pretty much does, except for ours!) can make your backyard unsafe for them.

School safe

Our seeds and blends are certified peanut free and are safe for peanut free environments like schools, daycares, Montessoris and public spaces.

FAQ

Are you a Canadian company?

Yes.

We are proud to be a female-founded and owned Canadian business. Our roots and home base are in Canada.

To continue growing sustainably, we now partner with a trusted U.S. manufacturer to ensure reliable, year-round production and to keep shipping costs as fair as possible for customers across North America.

Our blends are made with a careful selection of Canadian and internationally sourced ingredients, and every product is crafted to the same quality and allergen-safety standards we’ve always been known for.

Why peanut free?

This is a question we're asked a lot, and we're always happy when people take the time to ask.

Pretty much all bird seed and bird seed blends on the market (except for ours!) either contain peanuts or contain trace levels of peanuts or was manufactured and packaged in a facility that also uses peanuts (often all of the above).

This makes it unsafe for people with peanut allergies to use or be around.

We wanted to change that. Because we believe that everyone should be able to feed the birds worry and peanut free. Now you can.

You can learn more about why peanut-free matters here. You can learn more about why we do what we do here.

Yes! All of our products are tested and verified peanut-free by a third-party accredited lab.

Can I feed my pet bird your outdoor bird seed?

No. We don't recommend feeding pet birds our outdoor bird seed. Our outdoor blends have a higher fat content, which is great for outdoor birds, but not so great for indoor pet birds.

Is your packaging environmentally friendly?

Yes. We decided to move to a more circular form of sustainability in the form of PCR (Post Consumer Recycled) packaging, meaning packaging that uses recycled plastic waste collected from consumers, such as bottles and containers, keeping materials in circulation and out of landfills.

It's also PFAS free (those are those nasty forever chemicals).

Packaging, especially environmentally friendly packaging, is a nuanced endeavour. We’ll continue to do our part to make sure that our packaging is as kind as it can be to the environment that the birds (and we) need and love.

You can learn more about our packaging journey here.

Is your birdseed non GMO?

Yes.

Our birdseed blends are naturally non-GMO. The ingredients we use do not have GMO varieties, which means the blends are non-GMO by nature and by design.

Do you use filler seeds?

No.

Did you know that many blends of wild bird seed can contain up to 70% (or more!) of filler seeds? They can. But not ours.

Filler seeds, like corn, wheat, milo (sorghum) and red millet, are seeds that backyard birds either aren't that fond of or don't eat. They make it seem like you're getting quite a bit of bird seed for not a lot of money but most of these seeds (and your money) just goes to waste. And, the seeds that are tossed to the ground (because the birds don’t like them), can get moldy, which can be very harmful to birds. If all that wasn’t reason enough to avoid filler seeds, these unwanted by the birds seeds can attract rodents, who are more than happy to enjoy them.

We decided very early on that we wanted nothing to do with fillers, even if it meant our blends would cost a bit more (and they do). We truly believe it's worth it, for the humans and the birds.

A re-cap about filler seeds

  • Backyard birds aren't all that fond of them.
  • Birds toss them to the ground, which can cause mold and attract rodents.
  • Your money, along with the filler seeds, just goes to waste.
  • You're not attracting near the amount of birds you could be with quality seeds birds actually love.

(To be fair, there are birds that will eat these filler seeds, but they’re largely either ‘nuisance’ birds that you really don’t want at your feeders, like European Starlings and House Sparrows (both of which are considered invasive species in North America) or birds that don’t frequent backyard feeders such as quail, pheasants and turkeys.)

What seeds attract the most birds?

Life can be complicated enough, especially when you’re navigating it with a peanut (or any) allergy, and so we wanted to keep things simple and create just one blend (ok, two) that offered Something for Everyone. Inclusive. Simple.

Our Something for Everyone blends contain only premium seeds that all the seed-eating backyard birds truly love (no fillers, ever).

You could also use only sunflower chips (which just means that the outer shell has already been removed). This is a great option for urban areas or patios where you may not want the hulled (by the birds) sunflower shells on the ground.
